CONFIRMED: Charlie Sheen and his new wife Brooke Sheen, who married in May, are expecting their first child together. They are saying they think it’s a boy. Sheen has three daughters from previous marriages.

CONFIRMED:  A sibling is on the way for Sam Alexis Woods, born in June, 2007, as her parents Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren announce they are expecting their second child. The news was reported on the golf legend’s website.

Tiger Woods, and his wife, former Swedish model Elin Nordegren, welcomed their first child together, a daughter, on June 18. The baby girl is named Sam Alexis.

The baby was born less than 24 hours after Woods finished second in the U.S. Open.

Woods and Nordegren announced their daughter’s birth on Woods’s website, saying that mother and baby are both doing well, and they will be posting baby photos on their website shortly. (Wonder how the big gossip mags like that!).

No official word yet on how they chose the name, or whether Sam is short for Samantha.

UPDATE June 20: An interesting post at TravelGolf.com about how Tiger Woods is handling the pressure of a new celebrity baby. Unlike Phil Mickelson, who turned the birth of one of his children into a media event, Woods has played it low-key and classy, refusing to upstage the game, and his fellow golfers at the U.S. Open, with a “Tiger Cub” media circus.

UPDATE: June 25, 2007. Photos of Sam Alexis Woods have now been posted to Tiger Woods’s website. If you can figure out how to slow down that irritating flash viewer he has on the site, you might get to see her! Also announced on the site, is that Woods is skipping the upcoming Buick Open, in favor of staying home with his wife and new daughter. Good for you Tiger!

Tiger Woods, and his wife, Swedish model Elin Nordegren, are expecting their first child in July, and the media hype just shifted into high gear.

USA Today ran a feature on April 2nd called Name Tiger’s Baby as speculation about the baby’s name starts to build. In a poll running next to the feature, readers were asked if they thought the baby would be named Earl, after Tiger’s father, if it is a boy. Out of more than 6,000 votes cast, 65% thought the little Tiger cub would be named Earl, or Earline if it’s a girl.

Believe it or not, Earline is the feminine form of Earl.

But what about other family names? Elin Nordegren’s parents were named Barbro and Thomas. I could certainly imagine them choosing Thomas Earl if it’s a boy. And I kinda like that name Barbro. Has a very contemporary feel to it. “Yo, bro.” And what about Tiger’s mom’s name, if the newborn is female? Her name is Kultida (she is from Thailand) so maybe a Thai name is in the stars.

Speculation aside, you can be sure that the hype around this baby will be right up there with the births of Shiloh and Suri on the celebrity baby Richter scale. That’s a ten. And we’ll be right there in the thick of it!
