Russell Crowe A Big Tennyson Fan
Who coulda guessed? Movie idol Russell Crowe is a big fan of Alfred, Lord Tennyson, the romantic, some might say insipid,
19th century British poet-laureate, and bane of English schoolchildren for the last hundred years or so. Crowe joins none other than Queen Victoria in the Tennyson fan club - she thought so highly of the bard that she saw fit to make the former rector’s son a peer of the realm, Baron Tennyson. But I digress. Crowe and his wife Danielle Spencer just welcomed their new son to the 21st century, and burdened him with the first name Tennyson. Actually, Tennyson as a first name has been around for longer than two centuries. It dates back to Middle English, and means ”son of Dennis.” For Russell’s sake, let’s hope not. (Or should I say, for Danielle’s sake?).
