Celebrity Baby Name of the Day — "Harlow"
“Harlow Olivia Calliope”
Actress Patrcia Arquette, and her husband (as of June, 2006) actor, Thomas Jane, named their daughter “Harlow Olivia Calliope” in February of 2003. Arquette’s mother’s middle name was Olivia, but where did they get Harlow and Calliope from?
Harlow is one of those names where you can never be sure if it’s a girl’s name or a boy’s name, or, in this case, if it’s a surname. In fact, it’s probably most famous as a surname, from America’s original “blonde bombshell,” Jean Harlow. When it’s not busy being a surname, it’s more often a boy’s name, according to baby naming websites.
Still, celebrities do set trends, and since Patricia Arquette, and more recently Joely Fisher, have named their daughters “Harlow,” we’ll probably be seeing the name applied to a new generation of girls.
Calliope is a beautiful, traditional name, from the Greek, “Kalliope,” meaning “beautiful voice.” In mythology, Kalliope is the muse of epic poetry.
