This just in: Nicole Kidman has given birth to a baby girl early today, July 7. The newborn is the first child for Kidman, 41, and husband Keith Urban, 40.

The couple have chosen the name Sunday Rose, according to US Magazine.

It’s not totally unusual to name children after days of the week. The Baby Name Bible by Pamela Redmond Satran and Linda Rosenkrantz says that ‘Sunday’ is among the best of the day names, with its sunny opening syllable. Still, I can’t help thinking about ‘Wednesday’ from The Addams Family when I hear it.

UPDATE: It has been widely reported that the name Sunday was dreamed up by Kidman’s father, Antony. He came across the name while reading about Sunday Reed, an Australian arts patron who eventually committed suicide.

More interesting to me is that Kidman is, sadly, continuing the long-established trend of using Rose only as a middle name. Doesn’t anyone think Rose is good enough to use as a first name?

As this puff piece in People shows, the gossip world is building the hype for the Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban baby event, due this summer. So we’ll do a little hyping of our own — Celebrity Baby Names style.

The big question: what baby name will Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban choose?

Keep in mind that Kidman already has two children from her marriage to Tom Cruise — Isabella, 15, and Connor, 12. Both of those names are now somewhat dated, especially Connor. Since we don’t know the sex of the baby, it’s twice as difficult to guess what the name will be, but let’s do it anyway! Nicole Kidman and husband Keith Urban made big news last month when her pregnancy was finally confirmed. But they are keeping everything else, including the baby’s gender, under wraps, at least for now. That’s the word from the couple’s home country media — in this case, the Australian Herald Sun.

Too bad! It’s going to make it tougher, guessing Nicole Kidman’s new baby name! The new arrival is reportedly due in July.
