UPDATE: June 25, 2007. Melanie Brown’s rep has confirmed to People Magazine that Eddie Murphy is the father of two-month old Angel. This is the first official word on the subject from the Brown camp.

Angel Iris Murphy Brown, two-month old daughter of former Spice Girl Melanie Brown, can finally call Eddie Murphy “Daddy.”  Well, she can in a few months, anyway.

That’s according to a source close to Mel B., reported in People earlier today.

It’s no surprise. Eighty percent of our readers, in a poll conducted in April, thought Murphy was the papa, despite his denial and general silence on the issue.

Liza Anderson, rep for the former “Scary” Spice, told People that Brown received the offical DNA test results on Thursday afternoon, and an unnamed source said that “the baby is undoubtedly, 110 percent his.”

Still no comment from the comedian, who was recently ordered by a British court to provide the DNA sample.

Brown gave birth to Angel Iris (originally mistakenly referred to by many as Fortuna Daphne) on April 3, and has contended from day one that Murphy is the father. Murphy is currently dating music producer Tracey Edmonds, pictured with him here.

People.com is reporting that Melanie Brown, aka Scary Spice, who has claimed from day one that her new daughter, Angel Iris Murphy Brown, is entitled to call Eddie Murphy daddy, is planning legal action to force Murphy to take a paternity test.

Murphy claims he is not the father, or at least, claims that it hasn’t been proven. So Mel Brown is giving him his chance to do just that. She told People that Murphy hasn’t signed the birth certificate for Angel, who was born on Murphy’s birthday, April 3. Nor has he been in touch with her at all, or asked to see the baby.

In a recent poll here on this blog, more than 80 percent of our readers felt that Murphy is the daddy. With this latest legal salvo from Brown, I’d say that number might be heading higher.

Murphy is currently dating film producer Tracey Edmonds.

“Murphy Because He’s The Dad, And Brown Because I’m The Mum!”

That’s how former Spice Girl Melanie Brown describes how she came up with the second half of her daughter’s name, in a story reported in People a few hours ago.

Since the birth of her daughter on April 3, Brown has steadfastly maintained that Eddie Murphy, who turned 46 on the same day, and who is now dating film producer Tracey Edmonds, is the father of her baby girl. Murphy has just as steadfastly refused to accept that fact, demanding a paternity test.

 It was revealed today that the baby’s name is Angel Iris Murphy Brown. The former Spice Girl, speaking through her London reps, said she chose “Angel” because the baby was her little angel, and she chose Iris to honor her grandmother. And we know why she chose “Murphy!”

Next move, it seems, may be up to Eddie Murphy. It has been reported that little Angel has already been swabbed for DNA. No word yet if Murphy has done so.

In a poll we conducted here over the past couple of weeks, 80 percent of respondents believe that Murphy is the father.

Well, it’s not scientific, but in the court of public opinion, it looks like Eddie Murphy is considered guilty as charged (charged by Melanie Brown, that is).

In our decidedly unofficial, and unbinding poll, readers responded in overwhelming numbers on the side of Melanie Brown, in the “Who’s the Daddy?” case of her new daughter, Fortuna Daphne Bay Brown. (Or Baby Brown, if you don’t like “Fortuna Daphne Bay”, and most people don’t seem to).

Eighty percent of our respondents think Eddie Murphy is the father of the little girl, born on April 3, his forty-sixth birthday. Maybe people are a bit turned off by Murphy’s denial — he just didn’t seem very reasonable about conceding that it might be his. But he never flat out denied it, so he clearly knows he’s in the running. And maybe Melanie B. knows something that he doesn’t.

Anyway, Fortuna has turned over her DNA sample. Now where is Eddie Murphy’s? On with the show!

A DNA sample has been taken from former Spice Girl Melanie Brown’s new baby, in a prelude to a public paternity battle involving alleged father Eddie Murphy.

According to Hollywood.com, Brown’s baby girl, known as Fortuna Daphne Bay, or just Baby Brown, depending on who you believe, has already been subjected to a DNA testing procedure. Brown is reportedly steaming mad that Murphy has questioned his paternity and caused her extreme emotional pain during what should have been a special time.

UPDATE, April 12. Or is she? People Magazine today is citing sources close to Melanie Brown,  saying that reports of the baby name being Fortuna Daphne Bay are “total rubbish.” So what name does it give on the birth certificate, I wonder?
How’s that for a weird celebrity baby name?

EurWeb.com is reporting that Melanie “Scary Spice” Brown – already the mother of Phoenix Chi – has named her new daughter Fortuna Daphne Bay, or FDB, as she’s already been dubbed by the European press.

I’m not buying this one yet. Most of the major press has not reported it, and I have not heard personally from Mel B’s publicist. (If she’d like to contact me, see our contact info).

On a related note, no word yet if Eddie Murphy, who according to Melanie Brown is the father, has agreed to a DNA test. Murphy, who is currently dating film producer Tracey Edmonds, is not conceding the child is his. On the other hand, I haven’t seen any quotes from Murphy where he categorically said Fortuna Daphne Bay is not his baby.

UPDATE April 11: Mel B. puts it in writing — Eddie Murphy named as the father on Fortuna’s birth certificate.

 UPDATE June 22: Source close to Melanie Brown tells People that DNA test results delivered to Brown on Thursday afternoon show conclusively that Eddie Murphy is the father of Brown’s two-month old daughter, Angel Iris Murphy Brown.

UPDATE April 11: British gossip site Exposay.com is reporting that Melanie Brown has listed Eddie Murphy as the father of her newborn daughter, Fortuna Daphne Bay, on the child’s birth certificate. Of course, being on the birth certificate for Dannielynn didn’t make Larry Birkhead the baby’s daddy, but I doubt that we’ll see a repeat. My money is on Mel B. for knowing who the daddy is.

Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown will be leaving the Santa Monica hospital any day now, taking home her new baby girl to meet big sister Phoenix Chi.

“Baby Brown,” as she has come to be known, was born on April 3 — Eddie Murphy’s birthday.

This is going to be right up there with the Dannielynn Smith paternity media circus: for starters, mom is alive and well and has argued from the beginning of her pregnancy that Eddie Murphy is the father, and second, Eddie Murphy has certainly implied, on the record, that he’ll submit to a paternity test. Of course, that was no doubt said without a lawyer present, so maybe he has some wiggle room there.

Why do I have the feeling that Melanie Brown is going to come out the winner here, and Murphy is going to be paying some hefty child support for the next 18 years?

I can’t wait til Melanie B. gets out of hospital and this legal circus kicks into high gear, alongside the Dannielynn Smith paternity proceedings.

How will CNN and Fox TV have enough airtime to cover both of these nationally important stories? Will there be enough talking heads and legal experts to go around? Can Larry King get Howard K. Stern and Eddie Murphy on the same show? It should be fun, folks.

Comedian Eddie Murphy turned 46 on Tuesday — the same day that his former, extremely brief, girlfriend, ex-Spice Girl Melanie Brown, gave birth to a baby girl in Santa Monica, California.

The little girl, who has been dubbed “Baby Brown” by the gossip media, doesn’t have a proper name yet. But that’s not the worst of it. She doesn’t have a proper daddy yet, either.

Melanie Brown insists that Eddie Murphy is the father, although I wouldn’t count Howard K. Stern out just yet. Murphy, cut from a different cloth than Stern, claims the little bundle isn’t his baby. He’s going to demand a blood test to sort things out.

Happy Birthday, Eddie.

What do the names Phoenix Chi, Brooklyn Joseph, Romeo James, Cruz David, and Bluebell Madonna have in common? They’re all kids of singers formerly with the Spice Girls! The first is the daughter of Mel B., the next three are the brood of fertile Victoria Beckham (formerly Posh Spice), and the last is the recently-born daughter of Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice). Why bring this up today?

Today, the rumor mill is atwitter with news that Eddie Murphy may have knocked up Mel B. There is much speculation that twins are on the way, and a shotgun marrigage may be in the offing, as EntertainmentWise is reporting. So what does this have to do with celebrity baby names?

Well, just take a look at what’s going on with the Spice Girls’ kids. Every one of those names is a classic “celebrity baby name” — nothing ordinary for the former Spice Girls. Do you think Eddie Murphy and Mel B. are going to name their twins (if they have them, wink, wink) John and Jane? I don’t think so. I think that the Spice Girls’ baby names wars are upon us. What can Mel B. and Eddie come up with, that will top Phoenix, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Bluebell? It makes my head spin, at the thought of it.

BTW – turns out that Geri Halliwell named Bluebell after the flower because her Mum told her that a bluebell is very rare. Isn’t that cute?
