Actress Jodie Sweetin, 28, and her boyfriend Morty Coyle welcomed their first child together, a baby girl, on Tuesday. The newborn is named Beatrix Carlin. Baby Beatrix joins big sister Zoie, Sweetin’s 2-year-old daughter from her marriage to set designer Cody Herpin.

Meanwhile, co-stars Kaitlin Olson, 35, and Rob McElhenney of the hit show It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia enjoyed a little sunshine of their own in Los Angeles on Wednesday, with the arrival of Axel Lee, their first child. (Yes, that’s a boy, though you can never be sure these days). I’m not a real big fan of the name Axel, because I think it’s one of those names that grates on the ear. My lack of appreciation is doing nothing to stop Axel climbing the top 1000 names chart fairly briskly these days.

It really was a busy week in L.A. for celeb babies, as Mad Men star Rich Sommer and his wife Virginia welcomed their second child, a boy, named Patrick Ryan. The couple have a 2-year-old daughter named Beatrice.

Fashion designer Georgina Chapman and movie producer Harvey Weinstein have welcomed a baby girl, according to the New York Post’s Page Six.

The baby girl  named India Pearl, was born August 29.

The choice of place names for baby names, whether countries such as India, or cities such as Brooklyn or Kingston, is definitely on the upswing, especially among celebrities. Although in the last couple of years, India has not been one of the more popular place names, and has slipped a bit in the rankings.

India Pearl is the first child for Chapman, while Weinstein has three daughters from an earlier marriage.

The Camerons and their two children Nancy, 6, and Arthur Elwen, 4, were on vacation in the Cornwall village of St. Edellion, with the new baby expected around mid-September.

Apparently, nobody told the baby about the plans, and little Florence Rose Edellion arrived on August 24, almost three weeks early.

Baby and mother are reportedly doing fine, despite the early arrival. Prime Minister Cameron, speaking to British media, said his new daughter is “unbelievably beautiful.”

Bell, 42, and husband Adam Beason, have a 7-year-old daughter named Gemma.

The name Ronan is of Irish origin, and it means “little seal.”

In one of the more unusual celebrity births of the year, it was announced a few weeks ago that Ronaldo — one of the world’s top-ranked players, despite turning in a weak performance at the World Cup — had become a father. Ronaldo gave out no information about the child’s mother, and has said he will raise little Cristiano himself.

Apparently, Ronaldo’s girlfriend, Russian model Irina Shayk, is not the mom. (But she does appear to be a very forgiving sort of person).

Actress Tiffani Thiessen, 36, star of USA Network’s White Collar, and actor/husband Brady Smith welcomed their first child, a daughter, on June 15 in Los Angeles. The baby is named Harper Renn.

In a deviation from normal celebrity birth moments these days, Thiessen actually forgot to update her Twitter account, where her last Tweet was on June 4. (She was encouraging the baby to pop out at that time).  Thiessen obviously didn’t see the memo that urged all celebrity moms to tweet right through the birth process, unless they are completely unconscious.

Anyway, Thiessen’s daughter is here at last, and the main point I want to make is that she and Smith have given her a very hot baby name. Harper is quickly increasing in popularity for girls, having risen from # 887 in popularity in the U. S. to # 174 in the last five years. Thiessen’s choice might help spur it along even higher. (Dave Grohl’s daughter was named Harper last year).

I’m guessing “Renn” is a family name. Maybe someone can enlighten us.

Still, there is some hope that 2010 won’t be a total bust. Celebrities expecting babies include Kevin Costner (any day now); Céline Dion, who’s expecting twins in November; John Travolta and Kelly Preston; Alicia Keys; Jessica Capshaw; Matt Damon (again!);Amy Poehler; Jeff Gordon (boy coming in August); Danica McKellar (Wonder Years star, due in fall) and Chris Daughtry (twins in November).

Meanwhile, Sheryl Crow adopted a second son in early May. Levi James joins 3 year-old Wyatt at Crow’s home, according to her website.

Now Schiffer’s publicist has revealed that the baby’s name is Cosima Violet.

Cosima is an Italian name, derived from the Greek name “Cosmas,” which means “order” or “decency.”

Cosima joins siblings Caspar, 7, and Clementine, 5, at home.

Volleyball superstar and Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh, and husband Casey Jennings, welcomed their second child, and second son, on Wednesday in California. In stark contrast to the traditional name that they gave to their first son, Joseph, Walsh and Jennings pulled out all the stops with no. 2, naming him Sundance! There’s a name you don’t hear very often.

I really shouldn’t swipe the photo of Walsh and her baby off her website, but what the heck… if it’s her own photo, I’m sure she won’t mind!

Actress Amy Adams, star of Julie and Julia and Enchanted, and her fiancé, Darren Legallo, seem to be joining the rush for unique names, as they bestowed Aviana Olea on their daughter, and first child together, born on May 15 in Los Angeles.

I’ve checked a few sources and can’t come up with a definite meaning or origin for either name, though Aviana does seem to be a modern compound name combining Ava and Anna. Love to hear from anyone who knows the origin of  the names!
