Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane, 38, and wife Rebecca Gayheart, 37, welcomed their first child on March 3 in Los Angeles. The couple held off naming their new daughter right away, with Dane saying they wanted to meet the baby first, to make sure the name they chose “stuck”.

Apparently, in the past week, their little girl has let them know what she’d like to be called — Billie Beatrice.

Actually, I really like the name they (sorry, Billie) chose. It has a nice ring to it, with an echo of Billie Holiday, and the double “B” –  B.B. Dane — sounds good as well.

Maybe another candidate for top celebrity names of the year!

Platinum-selling R & B singer Keyshia Cole, 28, and fiancé Daniel Gibson, 24, welcomed their first child, a boy, on March 2. Gibson is a point guard for the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Their son’s name is Daniel Hiram. It’s the first time I’ve seen Daniel on the celebrity baby names list since Jennifer Hudson chose it as a middle name for son David last year.

The name Daniel has been a top 10 name for over a decade, and is as popular as ever right now.

I have to give a lot of credit to Gary Busey. Being a parent is hard work — physically and mentally. And there’s nothing like a newborn to keep you up at nights. For 2 or 3 years.

So if Gary looks a little tired in this photo, and maybe a little shellshocked, imagine how he feels now that his new son has actually arrived. (The photo was taken back in December, when Busey’s girlfriend Stefanie Sampson would have been about six months pregnant).

But time flies, as the 65 year-old Busey can surely attest, and his and Sampson’s first child, a boy, arrived on February 23. His name is Luke. Not the most-inspired name of the year, granted, but Busey probably has bigger things on his mind. Like whether his AARP membership covers daycare. Besides, as he told the Wall Street Journal’s entertainment/celebrity blog, Speakeasy, Luke sort of named himself. Smart kid, that Luke!

It’s been a slow month for new celebrity baby names, which probably means March will bring us a bumper crop of new names to be amazed by. I hope so. Names like “Luke” tend to make blogs like this a little irrelevant. Bad for business.

You don’t hear “Amadeus” on the playground very often.

Tennis ace Boris Becker, and his wife Sharlely (they married this past summer in St. Moritz) welcomed their new baby boy in London yesterday, and named him — wait for it — Amadeus Benedict Edley Luis Becker. That’s what I call a celebrity baby name!

I have no idea why they chose Amadeus, but hopefully we’ll hear more about it in the coming days. Maybe it’s a big name in his native Germany, although I haven’t heard it before even among the German names I’m familiar with. Or maybe Becker and his wife are just big Mozart fans! That’s the storyline I like.

Young Amadeus is Becker’s fourth child — he has been quite busy on that front in other relationships.

It used to be that the only person associated with the name Axl was the Guns ‘N Roses singer, Axl Rose. But add a letter “e” and Axel has a new connotation — the newborn son of comedian and actor Will Ferrell and his wife, actress Viveca Paulin.

Baby Axel was born January 23 in Los Angeles. When he gets home, he’ll meet big brothers in the shape of Magnus, 5, and Mattias, 3.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in L.A., Desperate Housewives star Neal McDonough and his wife Ruve Robertson welcomed their little bundle of joy on January 11, with the arrival of daughter London Jane. She also has to deal with two big sibs: Morgan Patrick, 4, and Catherine Maggie, 2. Congrats to London Jane on being the first big celebrity baby “place name” of the year — but surely not the last!

Bo Bice, Southern rocker, pride of Alabama, and American Idol alum, and wife Caroline Fisher, welcomed their third son earlier today.

Ean Jacob arrived this morning, according to Bice’s Twitter Feed.

It’s a little difficult to track down the meaning of the name “Ean”. Some sources say it’s short for “John,” others say short for “Ian.” The latter, a variant of Ian, is supported by the old Facts on File Dictionary of First Names, so I’ll go with that.

Ean joins big brothers, Caleb and Aidan, in the Bice household.

Our first round up of the year! Let’s see what 2010 brings to the world of celebrity baby names.

Actor/director Mark Wahlberg and his wife Rhea Durham welcomed their fourth child, a daughter, on January 13. Her name is Grace Margaret, and she is the second daughter for the couple. The newborn joins big sister Ella, and brothers Brendan and Michael at home.

‘N sync singer Joey Fatone, and his wife Kelly, are parents for the second time, with the arrival of their second daughter, Kloey Alexandre, on January 13 in Orlando. (Love that twist on “Chloe”)!

Vern Yip, the head judge on HGTV’s Design Star, is a new father. His son Gavin Joshua Mannox was born via surrogate to Yip and his partner on January 6.

Matthew McConaughey and girlfriend Camila Alves started off the new year in fine form, with the arrival of their second child, a daughter, named Vida. The name Vida is Portugese for “life” — Alves is Brazilian.

The baby girl arrived on January 3. She joins big brother Levi at home.

Actress Maya Rudolph (Away We Go) and husband/director Paul Anderson made it two, in early November, with the arrival of daughter Lucille. The couple also have a 4 year-old daughter named Pearl.

Singer Joy Enriquez and music producer Rodney Jerkins may have thought they were being original when they named their new arrival Heavenly Joy on November 17 in Los Angeles, but that name can’t hold a candle to Heavenly Hiraani Tiger Lily, daughter of the late Paula Yates, British writer, and the late Michael Hutchence, singer with the Aussie rock band Inxs.

Singer Lisa Loeb and husband Roey Hershkovitz chose Lyla Rose for their daughter who arrived the Sunday after Thanksgiving. Yet another instance of “Rose” as a middle name. The name Rose is going to get an inferiority complex if someone doesn’t pick it for a first name soon. It’s the fourth time this year as a middle name, according to our celeb baby name database, including Jennifer Garner’s Seraphina Rose; Maxine Bahn’s Madison Rose; and Roger and Mirka Federer’s amazingly similar Myla Rose.

Star of the hit show Scrubs, Judy Reyes, and boyfriend/director George Valencia, had an exciting Thanksgiving, with the arrival of daughter Leila Rey.

Joey McIntyre, youngest member of the off-again/on-again aging pop group New Kids On The Block, and his wife Barrett, welcomed their second son, Rhys Edward, on December 13. The little guy joins big brother Griffin in the McIntyre household.

And, what I think is the coolest celebrity baby name in this particular round up: say hello to Mason Dash, newborn son to reality star Kourtney Kardashian (seen here celebrating her 29th birthday in Vegas) and her boyfriend Scott Disick. I’m not sure what it is about Mason Dash that sounds so cool, but it does. It’s not like Mason is so original, and even Dash has been done before, but there’s something about the way those two names go together that I love — Mason Dash. You just know the kid is going to have an interesting future…
