Supermodel Claudia Schiffer and husband Matthew Vaughn welcomed their third child — a daughter — back on May 14 in London, but held off on naming the new baby until this week.

Now Schiffer’s publicist has revealed that the baby’s name is Cosima Violet.

Cosima is an Italian name, derived from the Greek name “Cosmas,” which means “order” or “decency.”

Cosima joins siblings Caspar, 7, and Clementine, 5, at home.

Volleyball superstar and Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh, and husband Casey Jennings, welcomed their second child, and second son, on Wednesday in California. In stark contrast to the traditional name that they gave to their first son, Joseph, Walsh and Jennings pulled out all the stops with no. 2, naming him Sundance! There’s a name you don’t hear very often.

I really shouldn’t swipe the photo of Walsh and her baby off her website, but what the heck… if it’s her own photo, I’m sure she won’t mind!

Unique baby names seem to be the flavor of the month, if we can judge by all the media hype surrounding the latest “popular baby names list” for 2009.

Actress Amy Adams, star of Julie and Julia and Enchanted, and her fiancé, Darren Legallo, seem to be joining the rush for unique names, as they bestowed Aviana Olea on their daughter, and first child together, born on May 15 in Los Angeles.

I’ve checked a few sources and can’t come up with a definite meaning or origin for either name, though Aviana does seem to be a modern compound name combining Ava and Anna. Love to hear from anyone who knows the origin of  the names!

News is spreading quickly that Sandra Bullock adopted a baby boy back in January, and kept the whole thing under wraps until just last week. Bullock, and soon-to-be ex Jesse James (now that Bullock has filed for divorce) adopted a baby from New Orleans.

The baby — now four months old — is named Louis Bardo Bullock. She plans to raise him as a single mom. What I love is that she revealed the origin of his name Louis — and it’s a great story. When she first met the baby, she happened to hear Louis Armstrong’s classic “What a Wonderful World.” And voila! The name Louis was the perfect fit.
