Fourth Annual Awards For Top Celebrity Baby Names of the Year

Best celebrity baby names of 2009

It’s that time of year again! It’s our FOURTH ANNUAL Best Celebrity Baby Names of the Year, where we look back at some of the best, the funniest, the weirdest, and the craziest celebrity baby names that arrived during 2009.

This annual review is co-sponsored by our sister site, Baby Names Garden, which is absolutely the best destination on the web for truly original baby names information, and over there you can find the full report on Best Celebrity Baby Names 2009.

2009 was another great year for celebrity baby names — including the unusual (Ione Skye named her daughter Goldie Priya); the strange (Brandon Flowers named his son Gunner): the spiritual (Joy Enriquez brought us Heavenly Joy); the traditional (Tom Cavanagh and Maureen Grise came up with James Joseph); and the truly “out-there” (from Sparrow James Midnight to Bandit Lee and Petal Blossom Rainbow)!

It was no easy task picking our choices for the Ten Best Celebrity Baby Names of 2009. So much to choose from. But in the end, we went for the creative, the unique, and the most memorable we could find. Here’s our list of the top ten — and you can find full details about each name at the official 2009 Celebrity Baby Names page.

Oh don’t be silly – Gunner is a perfectly acceptable Swedish name. And I don’t think Seraphina shoud be on the list as odd … there are plenty of others more weird than that. At least Seraphine actually means something!

I’m not a fan of the Kardashians, but Mason Dash is a perfectly normal name, considering the family name.

I love that first comment: “don’t be silly.”! Why not? Anyways, in reply, Brandon Flowers is frontman for the rock band “Killers,” and has said he chose “Gunner” because it “combats” the name “Flowers”. I could be wrong, but I don’t think he was thinking of his old Swedish grandpa when he came up with the name “Gunner”…

[...] On a recent trip to Spain, Suri was seen in an adorable pink flamenco dress. I love the way she always waves when she sees a paparazzi , she’s such a budding star and will definitely not be leaving the spotlight anytime soon. As we watch her grow her up, I think she will only become more iconic, stylish and vivacious.  She may even become a princess, which is what her name means in Hebrew. I often wonder where people, celebrities or not, come up with some of these baby names!
