Good Charlotte Rockers Becoming Old Geezers

Not really, but I thought it might be fun to write a punchy headline once in a while.

However, Good Charlotte band members are becoming fathers, so there’s no denying that the group, founded in 1996, is getting a little long in the tooth.

Last year it was vocalist Joel Madden, who along with Nicole Richie parented little Harlow Winter.

Now, guitarist Billy Martin, along with wife Linzi, has become a father, with the January 26 birth of their first son, Dreavyn Kingslee.

Let’s talk about the name Dreavyn. I have no idea what it means. And so, far, I haven’t heard from anyone else who does either. Please send us a comment if you know. The couple did tell People last year that they were planning an Alice in Wonderland-themed nursery, so maybe Dreavyn has something to do with that. I’m sure we’ll hear eventually.

Jennifer Garner And Ben Affleck Baby Name Revealed

The wait is over. The name is Seraphina Rose Elizabeth, according to People.

After about a week, new parents Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck finally released the name of their new daughter.

I called ‘Rose’ correctly. Not to brag about it, but I did predict Garner and Affleck would go with Rose. But for once, I wish a celebrity couple would choose Rose for a first name. It has been selected as a middle name so many times it is starting to look like a second class name.

For the record, Seraphina Rose Elizabeth was born January 6. What do you think of her name?

Charlotte Church Picks Dexter Lloyd For Baby Name

British singer Charlotte Church, and her rugby star husband Gavin Henson, have named their second child, and first son, Dexter Lloyd. As far as I can tell, Church had no competition this time around in the baby name department.

In 2007, when the couple’s daughter was born, Church was reportedly ‘gutted’ when pianist and model Myleene Klass ’stole’ her planned baby name, which was Ava. So they ended up naming their daughter Ruby Megan.

No such problem this time. The second-time parents picked a much less popular name with Dexter, who was born January 11.

Make Your Suggestions For Ben Affleck And Jennifer Garner Baby Name

I can’t stay out of the fray any longer. Although I posted derisively the other day about the media hype surrounding the Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck baby name mystery, everyone and their brother (or sister) is jumping on the bandwagon, trying to figure out what name the couple will bestow on Violet’s sister.

I’m asking for suggestions, readers. Maybe one of your ideas will help Garner and Affleck choose a name, and we can all move on with our lives. I’ll get the ball rolling — I suggest Rose. Not only does it go with Violet, but it’s about time a celebrity couple picked Rose as a first name, for once, rather than the usual choice of Rose as a middle name.

What do you think?

Lisa Bonet Chooses A Baby Name That Is Almost Too Long For Twitter

Former Cosby Show star Lisa Bonet, and boyfriend/actor Jason Momoa (Stargage: Atlantis), welcomed their new son on December 15, and word is just getting out.

The delay is probably due to the amount of time needed to spellcheck the baby’s name: Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha. I think I got that correct.

According to US Weekly, the name means ‘Warrior,’ and also refers to strength, rain and darkness (he was born on a stormy night).

The Ten Most Notable Celebrity Baby Names Of 2008 - Our Third Annual Review

Since 2006, we have ended each year with our list of the Ten Most Notable Celebrity Baby Names of the year. For 2008, as in previous years, the task was not an easy one. Celebrities have a way of coming up with the most unusual, creative, and thought-provoking names. (Did someone say Bronx Mowgli?). So each year, we have to winnow down a large list into ten celebrity baby names that we think show the most creativity, or spark the most controversy, or, in some enduring way, can be termed ‘notable’.

2008 saw a whole crop of unusual celebrity baby names — more so than in 2007, when traditional names seemed to be a little more fashionable. By 2008, celebrities were choosing very personal, creative names for their offspring, often with an interesting back story. The year also seemed to include more foreign-sounding names, perhaps a testament to the growing diversity of this country.

Whatever the cause, 2008 was a fun year for celebrity baby names. It had a bumper crop of mega-celebrity births, with Angelina Jolie, Gwen Stefani, Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lopez, Ashlee Simpson, and other big names leading the way. Yet, with the exception of Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz naming their son Bronx Mowgli, there was perhaps a little less media hysteria in 2008 over celebrity baby names, compared to the watershed year of 2006, the year of Jayden James, Suri, and Shiloh-Nouvel.

If I had to come up with a single adjective to describe celebrity baby names in 2008, I would have to say it was the year of ‘cool’ celebrity baby names.

# 1. Bronx Mowgli.

How could it not be? Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz ‘bonded’ over the book and movie The Jungle Book, and called their son ‘Mowgli’ because, as Pete Wentz said, they thought it was a ‘cool’ name. Wentz refused to divulge the origin of the name Bronx. For some reason, this name set off a firestorm of attention, much of it negative. But in the end, the public seemed to warm up to it. Either way, Bronx Mowgli is here to stay, and earns our # 1 spot as the most notable celebrity baby name of 2008.

# 2. Zuma Nesta Rock.

Another cool celebrity baby name from Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, who named their first son Kingston James. For their second son, the couple continued to honor important places in their lives — Zuma is from Zuma Beach, California, which is a special place to Rossdale. Nesta was Bob Marley’s first name. And Rock, of course, is for ‘rock and roll’.

# 3. Harlow Winter Kate.

If there is one name in this year’s list that seems to have won praise from almost everyone, Harlow Winter is it. The name was chosen by Nicole Richie and Joel Madden for their first child. It was voted the top celebrity baby name by readers of BabyNames.com, and sources have indicated that Madden and Richie chose Harlow because both of them liked different Harlows — the actress Jean Harlow and the model Shalom Harlow. And both parents liked Winter because it is calm and serene. The soft, harmonious name was a huge hit among fans.

# 4. Jagger Joseph Blue.

Despite the name Joseph, this celebrity baby name went to a girl — the daughter of former Punky Brewster star Soleil Moon Frye. It’s a second generation celebrity baby name, since Soleil Moon herself is on a lot of older celebrity baby name lists! Jagger was a hot name in 2008 — presumably in honor of Sir Mick. And giving boys’ names to girls was also fashionable.

# 5. Peanut Kai.

How could I not put a name like Peanut on the most notable list? Soap star Ingo Rademacher (General Hospital) and his fiancee, Ehiku, named their son Peanut Kai. Just because they liked the name Peanut.

# 6. Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline.

The names Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline would probably not make anyone’s notable list save for one thing — the twins’ parents are Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. Both names are rooted in family history. When your first baby photos sell for around $14 million, your names have to be on every list under the sun.

# 7.  Sunday Rose.

Sunday Rose was another 2008 celebrity baby name to garner rave reviews. Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban chose it for their first child together — a daughter born in July. But did they choose it? It turned out that the name Sunday was first proposed by Kidman’s father, Antony. Whatever the origin, this soft, sweet name was a big hit.

# 8.  Nahla Ariela.

Yet another in a long line of mega-celebrity births in 2008, this time for Halle Berry. She and boyfriend Gabriel Aubry chose the name after their daughter was born, telling People that it was hard to choose a name until they met the recipient! Nahla means ‘honeybee’ in Arabic.

# 9. Rain India.

Actress Marisol Nichols (24) and husband Taron Lexton combined two trends in one for their daughter Rain India, born in September. Natural names, such as Rain, and placenames, such as India, are perennial favorites among celebrities. Combining the two trends is quite unusual.

# 10. Charlie Tamara Tulip.

Ugly Betty star Rebecca Romijn and husband Jerry O’Connell slipped in under the wire with this striking celebrity baby name, given to their daughter, born on December 28 along with twin sister Dolly Rebecca Rose. It’s not just that Charlie is a girl — it’s the combining it with Tulip that is risk-taking and notable. A girl named Charlie Tulip is bound to go far.

Ben Affleck And Jennifer Garner Baby Name Still Unreleased

Jennifer Garner photoHere we go again. It’s time to play ‘guess the baby name’ as Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck hold back on releasing the name of their second daughter, born January 6.

This is not a new game. Last year, Brooke Burke and Jennifer Lopez, among others, took their time releasing baby names. In 2007, Brad Paisley, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Anna Belknap played it that way also. And the all-time record holder is Holly Hunter, who still has not released her twins’ names, even though they are about three years old now.

Sometimes, celeb parents might hold back the baby’s name because they really haven’t come up with a name yet. Brooke Burke and David Charvet genuinely struggled to come up with a name to hold its own with siblings Rain, Neriah, and Sierra (they finally named their son Shaya). Sometimes parents may do it out of concerns to protect the child’s privacy. (Good luck doing that in the age of the blogosphere).

But sometimes, I believe, celebs do it as a way of whipping up the media attention. And in the case of Affleck and Garner, it is working.

Want to join the public discourse on Garner and Affleck’s new baby’s name? You can guess the baby name at Nameberry. You can peruse the baby name suggestions at NowPublic. And you can check out ParentDish, where they claim, without any supporting evidence, that ‘one thing is for sure, though — Affleck has vowed to not give the new baby a crazy name.’

You get the picture. Hold back the baby name, whip up the media frenzy. But how tough can it be to come up with another girl name that goes well with Violet, the name of their three-year-old daughter? I’d come up with a few suggestions myself, if I hadn’t just written this post deriding other blogs for doing just that.

Suffice it to say, when the first baby photos sell to People or US Weekly for an obscene amount of money, somewhere there will be a P.R. operative quietly receiving a nice bonus…

UPDATE: January 10. I give up. I’m now playing the game also. Make your suggestions here for the Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck baby name.

Angie Harmon May Be Hoping For Charity Next

Not that the actress (Law and Order; End Game) or her former NFL player-husband Jason Sehorn have given any indication that the recession is forcing them to clip coupons. Not yet anyway. But the couple just welcomed their third daughter, and named her Emery Hope. The newborn joins big sisters Finley Faith and Avery Grace. If they have a fourth daughter, picking the baby name should be a breeze.
