CNN is reporting this morning that actress Angelina Jolie, 33, has given birth to twins — a boy and a girl — in Nice, France on Saturday night, July 12.

The boy is named Knox Leon, and the girl is named Vivienne Marcheline. Jolie’s mother, who diied in January, 2007, was named Marcheline.

No official word yet from the Jolie-Pitt camp as to how they came up with the names Knox Leon or Vivienne Marcheline, although rumors are floating around the internet that Knox was the middle name of Pitt’s grandfather, and that Leon is a family name on Jolie’s side.

It’s interesting that all the boys in the family now have names ending in the letter ‘x’.

The twins join a growing Jolie-Pitt family that includes Maddox, 6; Pax, 4; Zahara, 3; and Shiloh Nouvel, 2.

Sanity prevailed this week as Matthew McConaughey did not get his wish, and name his baby boy Budweiser.

Instead, the first child for the actor, 38, and his Brazilian model girlfriend Camila Alves, 25, is named Levi. He was born on July 7 in Los Angeles. McConaughey has explained that Levi is another name for Matthew, the apostle.

The name Levi is a Hebrew name meaning ‘attached to’ or ‘attendant upon.’ Levi was the third son of Jacob, and his descendants became priests serving in the temple in Jerusalem.

It’s a far cry from Budweiser!

This just in: Nicole Kidman has given birth to a baby girl early today, July 7. The newborn is the first child for Kidman, 41, and husband Keith Urban, 40.

The couple have chosen the name Sunday Rose, according to US Magazine.

It’s not totally unusual to name children after days of the week. The Baby Name Bible by Pamela Redmond Satran and Linda Rosenkrantz says that ‘Sunday’ is among the best of the day names, with its sunny opening syllable. Still, I can’t help thinking about ‘Wednesday’ from The Addams Family when I hear it.

UPDATE: It has been widely reported that the name Sunday was dreamed up by Kidman’s father, Antony. He came across the name while reading about Sunday Reed, an Australian arts patron who eventually committed suicide.

More interesting to me is that Kidman is, sadly, continuing the long-established trend of using Rose only as a middle name. Doesn’t anyone think Rose is good enough to use as a first name?
