I don’t want to say I told you so — I can’t be sure that her name change has affected her destiny — but on this blog on March 18, I said that Miley Cyrus was taking a big risk in changing the name that had served her so well since birth.

The current firestorm over provocative Annie Leibovitz photographs of Cyrus in Vanity Fair does appear to raise the possibility that changing her name was not a smart move.

There are plenty of people who believe that your name affects your destiny. Personally, I don’t know either way. But I think it’s a fascinating topic. And in light of what I suggested back in March about the possible outcome of Miley Cyrus’s name change — well, maybe there’s something to this idea after all.

Cyrus was given the name Destiny Hope when she was born — because her parents felt she had a great future in front of her. Boy, did she ever. But just last month, she petitioned in Los Angeles County Court to change her name from Destiny Hope Cyrus to Miley Ray Cyrus. The rest, as they say, is history.

It will be fascinating to see if she recovers from this P.R. nightmare — and where her destiny takes her next. No doubt many name experts will be watching her career closely, to see if there is any more fallout from the Miley Cyrus name change.

New York Yankee’s third baseman Alex Rodriguez, 32, and his wife Cynthia, 34, welcomed their second child and second daughter in Miami on April 21.

In keeping with this year’s celebrity baby naming tradition, the parents kept the name under wraps for a day or so, but it has now been revealed that the baby’s name is Ella Alexander. At least that’s what it said on the custom wrapper on the cigars that A-Rod handed out to his teammates.

Ella joins big sister Natasha, aged three.

Confirmed: Numb3rs star Diane Farr, 38, already notable for picking one of the more interesting celebrity baby names of 2007, Beckett Mancuso, is pregnant again, according to People. This time Farr is expecting twins. And we’re expecting two more cool baby names!

Confirmed: Actor Eric Mabius, 37, star of Ugly Betty, and his wife Ivy Sherman, an interior designer, are expecting their second child. Sherman and Mabius have a one-year-old son, Maxfield Elliott.

Rumor: Mark Wahlberg hasn’t confirmed it yet, but OK! Magazine is claiming that Boogie Nights star Mark Wahlberg, 36, and his girlfriend Rhea Durham, 29, are expecting their third child. Looks like the producer of Entourage is growing his own entourage.

Former star of Law and Order Elisabeth Rohm, and her fiance Ron Wooster, welcomed a baby girl on April 10. Proving that celebrities have not completely abandoned the practice of giving their children unusual baby names, they named their daughter Easton August Anthony, according to People.

Why the male names for a girl? (A leading baby names website shows all three names as boy’s names.)

UPDATE: August 20, 2008. News just hitting the internet that Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale’s son has been born — and his name is Zuma Nesta Rock!

There are celebrity babies, and then there are superstar celebrity babies, the kind whose birth gets a front page story on CNN.com.

Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale’s second child falls into the superstar category, and recently the couple talked with Ryan Seacrest on his KIIS FM radio show about baby names, among other things.

Rossdale told Seacrest that “there are some names floating around the house,” according to People. He added that it’s going to be tough for the new kid’s name to measure up to big brother Kingston, because “Kingston set a pretty intense standard.”

Maybe so, but let’s get things in perspective. It’s not like Stefani and Rossdale are in the same league as Brooke Burke and David Charvet, who basically froze for a few weeks after their son was born, because they couldn’t come up with a name to match sisters Heaven Rain, Neriah, and Sierra Sky. Now that was pressure!

Kingston is a cute name, but it’s no Heaven Rain. I’m thinking Stefani and Rossdale ought to be able to mint a brand new name within a couple of days of the anticipated summer birth. We’ll be waiting!

Wait a minute, didn’t this just happen with Jennifer Lopez? Remember how her twins’ names, Max and Emme, were revealed by a ‘shopper‘ who overheard Lopez’s mother ordering engraved baby id bracelets in a New York City jewelry store?

Lightning has struck again, this time at a Los Angeles jewelry store, where a ‘source’ revealed that a friend of Jessica Alba had an engraved baby id bracelet made up for Alba’s upcoming baby shower. The name on the bracelet: Honor.

The L.A. source was more forthcoming than their New York counterpart, revealing that the bracelet shopper, who remains anonymous, reported that Alba had chosen the name because she felt it was an honor to have Cash’s baby.

I’m not saying anything.

After what seemed like an eternity, Brooke Burke and husband David Charvet finally solved their baby name dilemma.

Their new son is named Shaya, Here is what Burke wrote on her blog, after nearly a month of agonizing over what to call her baby, who joined sisters Rain, Neriah, and Sierra:

“We played with so many different names, and both loved Shaya the most. It means God’s gift in Hebrew. David came up with a middle name, Braven, which I really like. I want to give him part of my name too, so I am thinking about double Bs in the middle like my initials, Braven-Burke.”

Let’s all move on with our lives, folks.
