Destiny Hope Cyrus Changes Her Name To Miley Ray Cyrus
Miley Ray Cyrus, also known as Hannah Montana, began life as Destiny Hope Cyrus. Her parents, singer Billy Ray Cyrus and wife Leticia, named her Destiny Hope because they felt she was destined for great things.
Now that she’s pretty much fulfilled her destiny, she’s decided to toss out the old name, and adopt Miley Ray Cyrus as her official, legal name. Papers filed by her parents in Los Angeles County Court on Friday petition for the name change.
Is this a smart idea? If, as some contend, your name affects your destiny (or in her case, Destiny affects her destiny), might she not be throwing out something very valuable? The name she bore while rising to the top? After all, her parents consciously gave her that name to help her succeed. Whether you believe in the power of names to shape your life or not, it seems like quite a risk to throw out a name that has served you well all your life.
To me this seems a little like those successful people who get to the top, and once there, forget where they came from and who was there for them along the way.
I wish Miley Cyrus well, and hope she enjoys continued success. But I hope she’s not making a big mistake that she’ll live to regret.

Good for her. I’m not wild about “Miley” as a name, but it’s also sort of a brand for her now. And “Destiny” sounds like a stripper name. I’d label this as an improvement.
I don’t think it’s a big deal at all because it sounds like everyone already calls her Miley. It’s not like she’s trying to force people to call her that with the legal change. I don’t know that Destiny has particularly “served her well all her life” (and she’s, what, 15?) if people aren’t using it regularly. As far as “forgetting where she came from,” I don’t think that’s an issue because this *is* a nickname her father gave her, plus the addition of “Ray” is obviously to honor dear old Dad (and he’s obviously onboard since he filed the papers!). I think it’s a good choice for her!
hai.. im from norway.. big fan. you sing verry vell..
Omg I love your voice Miley! i love your show!!! your soooo pretty!
I am her BIGGEST fan and by the way her concert was awesome!!! But… staying on track… If she likes the name Miley and her parents give her the okay, It can’t do much harm. I mean every body calls her that like this kid in my class named Patrick, ever since first grade every one calls him Fred so she should change it if it makes her happy.
hey miley how come you changed your name i liked that name but since you changed it i hate you !!!!!!!!!!
how can you take those picturs
