Jennifer Lopez Baby Names Revealed?

UPDATE: February 22. Twins are born, but will they be named Max and Emme?

Gossip site Just Jared is reporting this morning that Jennifer Lopez and husband Marc Anthony have already chosen the baby names for their upcoming twins.

Based on a story in Star magazine, it’s believed that the J.Lo babies will be named Max and Emme.

Supposedly J.Lo’s mother Guadalupe had two gold-rope baby ID bracelets engraved in New York City, and another shopper overheard the order. Hmm. Or maybe a magazine just wants to sell more issues.

Time will tell.

That’s Maxx With Two X’s, Thank You

Olympic champion skater Scott Hamilton, and his wife, Tracie Hamilton, welcomed their second child, a son, on January 21 in Tennessee. They chose the name Maxx — that’s with the letter ‘x’ twice, not a typo.

scott hamilton photoNow why would they do that? So that their son could spend his life correcting people who mispell his name? Of course not! They did it to be different — a hallmark of many celebrity baby names.

Well, it’s different all right. For some reason, it reminds me of the movie Mad Max, even though there was only one ‘x’ in that title. I guess that’s because seeing the name Max spelled Maxx has me groping for cultural references to place it somewhere. Whatever. Maxx it is.

It’s A Baby Boy For Mr. Big

Actor Chris Noth, probably forever typecast as “Mr. Big,” Carrie Bradshaw’s enduring love interest in Sex and the City, is the proud new father of a baby boy.Mr. Big photo

Noth’s longtime girlfriend, actress Tara Wilson, gave birth to their first child together on January 18 in Los Angeles. The couple met while she was working at his bar, The Cutting Room, in New York City.

And thanks to Mr. Big, things are finally starting to look up for the 2008 roster of celebrity baby names. The couple named their newborn Orion Christopher, a dramatic change from the recent spate of safe, traditional baby names chosen by celebrities.

Daniel Baldwin Names Child After Car Rental Company

Actor Daniel Baldwin, and his wife, Joanne Smith-Baldwin, welcomed a baby girl earlier today in Los Angeles, according to People.

They named her Avis Ann, according to the gossip site. She is the fourth child for Baldwin, and the first for Smith.

I’m stumped by the name Avis. Either they are naming her for the car rental company, in which case I do prefer it to Hertz, or they really named her Mavis, and an intern at People dropped the letter “M”.

I prefer the second explanation.

Celebrity Baby Names We Are Expecting

Where there’s a celebrity pregnancy, there’s got to be a celebrity baby name right around the corner. Matthew McConaughey PhotoHere are the biggest celebrities right now with babies on the way:

Matthew McConaughey
David Spade (maybe)
Jessica Alba
Halle Berry
Nicole Kidman
Jennifer Lopez
Nancy Kerrigan
Jack Black
Rapper T.I.

Oh, and Jamie Lynn Spears. Did I forget anyone? I wonder which celebrity is going to give their kid the craziest name? (Hint: it won’t be Nancy Kerrigan).

Celebrities Playing It Safe With Baby Names

Will 2008 be the year of the boring celebrity baby name? It makes me yearn for the days of Pilot Inspektor and Zolten!

Lauren Sanchez, host of the inaugural season of Fox T.V.’s So You Think You Can Dance, welcomed a daughter on January 15, and named her Eleanor Patricia. Whoa, is this the Fifties again?

Former star of the show Survivor, Jonny Fairplay, and his fiancee, Michelle Deighton (a former Top Model contestant) named their new daughter Piper Addison — a bit better, but Piper is very 90s.

And finally, Entourage’s Constance Zimmer, whose daughter was born January 5, came up with Colette Zoe. I’m not impressed.

But with all the stars who are expecting offspring (or allegedly so), there’s lots of time to get the year back on track. Let’s hope it happens. After all, if celebrities started to give their kids the same kind of names as the rest of us, “celebrity baby names” would hardly be worth blogging about. Perish the thought!

Huge Week For Celebrity Baby Names

More than a half dozen celebrities welcomed new babies in the past week. But with the exception of Nicole Richie’s new daughter, Harlow Winter Kate, the celebrity baby names that were ushered in are woefully lacking in creativity and originality.Nicole Richie photo

As the world knows, Christina Aguilera and Jordan Bratman had a son on January 12, and named him Max Liron. No comment on the overused Max; what’s with the name Liron? It’s actually a Hebrew name, meaning ‘my joy’ or ‘my song.’ That’s refreshing — they should have saved Max for a middle name.

Nicole Richie and Joel Madden welcomed a daugher, and chose the unusual, but hip name Harlow. And they threw Winter in there for good measure, perhaps to remind themselves of when she was born. Whatever the reason, they get points for originality. Of course, Patricia Arquette has a daugher named Harlow, and I recall that Joely Fisher named her daughter True Harlow back in 2006.

Comedian David Alan Grier and his wife Christine Kim named their baby daugher Luisa Danbi — the latter being a Korean name meaning ’sweet rain.’ I notice the word ‘rain’ creeping into celebrity baby names these days — Brooke Burke and David Charvet named their daughter Heaven Rain toward the end of last year.

The actress Courtney Thorne-Smith (According to Jim) and her husband Roger Fishman named their January 11 arrival Jacob Emerson. Stella McCartney went with the name Beckett, for her son, born January 8, as did actress Diane Farr in 2006. Beckett is one of those trendy new names that is in serious danger of becoming outmoded really quickly.

Meanwhile, Toni Collette, star of Little Miss Sunshine, and her musician husband Dave Galafassi chose Sage Florence for their first child, a daughter, born January 10. And on January 4, British actress Samantha Morton gave birth to a girl, and, perhaps in keeping with current British baby naming trends (very retro) named her Edie.

A lot of celebrity babies, but not many cool new celebrity baby names. Still, the year is young. And a lot of celebrities babies are in the wings, so to speak.

Gabby Reece Welcomes Baby Girl; Sows Confusion With Boy’s Name

Volleyball star and former fashion supermodel Gabrielle Reece, 37, and husband and surfer Laird Hamilton, 43, welcomed their second child together on New Year’s Day — and sowed confusion among the gossip sites by giving their daughter the typically male name, Brody. After People ran their original story, saying the baby was a boy, gossip sites across the internet, lemming-like, regurgitated the wrong story.

So a girl it is, named Brody Jo, who joins big sister Reece Viola, 4.

Maybe the real story is the meaning of the name Brody. It is of Gaelic origin, and originally meant ‘ditch.’
