Online Birth Announcements Are For Your Baby, Not Your Career
Olympic champion skaters Jamie Sale and David Pelletier are first-time parents, up there in Canada. According to the skating duo’s website, son Jesse arrived October 1 in St. Albert, Alberta.
Thankfully, they didn’t name him Albert. At their site, you can view the press release announcing the birth of little Jesse, and also find out their upcoming skating schedule, all in the same announcement.
I’ve posted before about how uncool it is to use your online celebrity baby announcement as a place to pitch whatever you’re in the business of pitching. It’s really tawdry, and I don’t use that word lightly. Jeff Gordon pulled the same stunt earlier this year. How ya gonna show junior their e-announcement years from now?
Here is how their announcement begins:
“CANADA’S ‘GOLDEN COUPLE’ CELEBRATES NEWEST ADDITION TO THE FAMILY.”
And here is the last paragraph of little Jesse’s birth announcement:
“Sale and Pelletier will return to the ice in December for Holiday Festival on Ice shows in Kelowna and Cranbrook, British Columbia, and again in the spring for 20 shows on this year’s Smucker’s Stars on Ice tour in the U.S., and all 12 shows of Canada’s Stars on Ice taking place April 17 – May 7.”
What, couldn’t find room to squeeze in the schedule for Christmas, 2008 as well?
