Wishful Thinking: Angelina Jolie pregnant again? The gossip world wishes it was true. There’s nobody like Angelina for selling magazines and keeping readers glued to the gossip websites. The rumor mill is starting up again, but so far that’s all it is.

And in the “we’re desperate for something to write about” category, this stretch from Hollywood Grind about whether actress Cate Blanchett is pregnant or not. UPDATE: Confirmed! Blanchett is due in April says the Hollywood Gossip.

‘People’ Greets Larry The Cable Guy’s Baby With Weird Headline

I know what it’s like to be stuck for a good headline. But I like to think that if any media outlet can afford good headline writers, it should be gossip rag extraordaire, People.larry cable guy photo

So I was gobsmacked when I read their headline announcing the birth of a baby daughter for Dan Whitney (aka The Cable Guy) and his wife Cara:

“It’s a Little Cable Girl for Larry the Cable Guy.”

“…a Little Cable Girl?”…

What the hell is a “Little Cable Girl”?

That’s the dumbest, laziest headline I’ve seen in a long while.

Anyway, “the little cable girl” as People has now christened her, is actually named Reagan. She was born October 29, and joins big brother Wyatt, who is almost one year old.

Whitney, who largely avoids the media glare, lives with his family in Seminole County, Florida. They also maintain a home in Lincoln, Nebraska, which is Whitney’s home state.

Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon Names Twins Jax And Jaid

And the question, surely, is “why?”

Coming up with a really way-out celebrity baby name is totally cool — take Gretchen Mol and her new baby, Ptolemy, for example. Now there’s an unusual baby name.

Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon photoBut taking an ordinary name, or in this case, names, and tweaking a few letters to make them look different, leads to only one thing — spelling mistakes!

Jax. Is that from Jack? Jackson? Maybe it should be spelled Jacks? Or Jakks? Who the heck knows?

As if that weren’t bad enough, Beauvais-Nilon and husband Michael Nilon turn the elegant name Jade into Jaid. It’s not unique — it’s a recipe for a lifetime of hearing “can you spell that again please,” or “I’m sorry, did you say J-A-I-D”?

“er… yes, I did, sorry, it was my mom’s idea…I guess she figured if she named me Jade, people might think I was a girl…”

Little Jax and Jaid arrived October 18 in Los Angeles. Beauvais-Nilon, 40, is best known for her role as assistant District Attorney Valerie Heywood on NYPD Blue. She and Nilon have been married for about six years. Beauvais-Nilon has a son named Oliver from a previous marriage.

Gretchen Mol Raises The Bar For Celebrity Baby Names

Actress Gretchen Mol (The Notorious Betty Page; 3:10 to Yuma), and husband-director Tod Williams, gretchen mol photojust raised the bar a couple of notches for contenders in our upcoming list of Most Notable Celebrity Baby Names of 2007.

Mol, 34, and Williams, 38, named their first child, a son, Ptolemy John. He was born September 10, according to People.

Way to go! Now that’s what I call a celebrity baby name! Something to really sink your teeth into. This name is so unusual, most people aren’t sure if they’re even pronouncing it correctly! (I’m guessing the ‘P’ is silent, and I’m going with ‘Tolomee,’ but I have no idea if I’m getting it right).

So who was this Ptolemy dude whose name has been hauled into the 21st Century courtesy of Gretchen Mol and Tod Williams? Actually, there were at least two really famous ones — Ptolemy the Greek philosopher, geographer, astronomer, and all-round brainy person, and then Ptolemy the general, who went on to become an Egyptian king, and founder of his own dynasty.

Whoa! Impressive heritage. And the name itself literally means “aggressive, warlike.” If names can influence a child’s destiny, as some believe, this little guy is one kid to watch.

Where Have All The Celebrity Baby Names Gone?

First it was Holly Hunter, who gave birth to twins last year and still hasn’t revealed their names. Then it was Nick Nolte and Clytie Lane. And now it appears that Sacha Baron Cohen and Isla Fisher aren’t going to spill the celebrity baby name beans either.

What these celebrities apparently fail to realize, in their peevishness, is that if they don’t release their offspring’s name, it can’t be immortalized in the Celebrity Baby Names Database. Which means, not only will these celeb babies fail to appear in the world’s most authoritative database of its kind, they won’t appear in the Celebrity Baby Names Quiz Game, either.  (That’s the cool widget somewhere on the left panel of this blog). And that would really be too bad.

If any of you readers have a hot tip about any of these missing celebrity baby names, don’t hesitate to add a comment.

Sacha Baron Cohen And Isla Fisher Welcome Baby

UPDATE: October 24. According to CBNB reader Angela, the baby’s name is Olive. She pointed us to the story in OK! which claims to have the exclusive story about Cohen and Fisher’s baby’s name. I don’t really know what to say. After the excitement of posting about Gretchen Mol’s new baby, Ptolemy John, earlier today, the name Olive is a bit of a letdown. The first thing I thought of was Popeye. With ‘Sacha’ and ‘Isla’ for parental first names, ‘Olive’ seems so drab. Maybe that’s the point. Or maybe they just like Olive. OK! also confirmed that little Olive arrived on October 17.

People is reporting that the long-awaited celebrity baby of Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen, and his girlfriend, borat photoAustralian-born actress Isla Fisher, has arrived.

According to People, no further details have been released.

When they are, we’ll update this post. The baby, the first for Cohen, 36, and Fisher, 31, is one of the most anticipated celebrity babies of 2007. I can’t wait to see what name they’ve chosen!

Celebrity Baby Names Just Get Odder

I’d never heard of Alex Wurz until a blog called Celebrity Pregnancy, (which rarely links out to other blogs, so I’m not going to do them the favor), grabbed my attention with the headline ”Formula one racer Alex Wurz welcomes third son.”

Ignoring the glaring punctuation mistake in said headline, I set about digging up some info on Alex Wurz and his third offspring.

It turns out Wurz is recently retired from Formula One, and that even during his career he only gained three podium finishes and no outright wins. But that’s not the Wurz of it.

The Austrian-born racer, and his wife Julia, have named two of their three sons Oscar and Felix — Oscar being the most recent arrival, born September 30. The third brother is Charlie.

Maybe it’s just me, maybe it’s the slow news day, but I think naming two of your sons Oscar and Felix is just a little schizophrenic. What if Oscar is a controlling neat freak? What if Felix turns out to be the biggest slob since Walter Matthau on Broadway in 1965? It’s asking for trouble.

But despite the fact that Oscar and Felix Wurz are the Odd Couple reincarnate, the real odd man out in this brood is Charlie. He’s not just the odd man out — he’s odder than the Odd Couple. And that’s a heavy burden to shoulder when you’re just a kid, trying to cope with brothers named Oscar and Felix.

Nick Nolte Needs A Baby Name

At age 66, Nick Nolte might have expectednick nolte photo to be doing something other than leafing through baby name books, but there it is. Or rather, there she is. Or, as TMZ put it, “Huh”?

Nolte, and his longtime partner Clytie Lane, 38, welcomed a baby daughter into the world, and to Los Angeles, on October 3. This is Lane’s first child. Nolte has a son, Brawley, from a previous marriage.

Trouble is, they can’t seem to come up with a name for the newborn girl.

Any suggestions for the happy couple?
