Recent celebrity births 

British pianist, model, former pop singer, and t.v. personality Myleene Klass, and on-again, off-again boyfriend Graham Quinn, welcomed their first child together, a daughter, on August 16. Much to the distress of fellow Brit songstress, Charlotte Church, (see below), they named their baby Ava Bailey.

Rules of Engagement star Oliver Hudson, 30, and wife Erinn Bartlett, 34, welcomed their first child on August 23, according to People. Their daughter is named Wilder Brooks. The couple married last year.

Singer/actor Tyrese Gibson and his wife, Norma Gibson, welcomed a daughter, Shayla Somer, July 11. in Los Angeles.

Actress Sherilyn Fenn, 42, of Twin Peaks fame, reportedly gave birth to a son on August 6 or 7. The father is boyfriend Dylan Stewart. The newborn’s name is said to be Christian. Fenn has a son, Myles, 14, from a previous relationship.

British singing sensation Charlotte Church, due in a couple of weeks, is reportedly “gutted” that Myleene Klass beat her to the punch when Klass snagged the name Ava for her baby. Klass gave birth to Ava Bailey on August 16. Church, and boyfriend Gavin Henson, may now go with ‘Lucius’ if it’s a boy, according to the Sun.

A Christmas baby is in the works for 41 year-old actress Helena Bonham Carter, and fiance, director Tim Burton (Nightmare before Christmas — let’s hope not). They already have a 3 year old son, Billy Ray.

 According to People Olympic champion figure skater Scott Hamilton and his wife Tracie are expecting their second child in January. Hamilton, 48, and Tracie, 37, have been married since 2002 and have a son, Aidan, 3.

Also due in January, actress Samantha Morton, (Minority Report) and fiance Harry Holm. This will be Morton’s second child. She has a 7 year old daughter named Esme.

Well, not exactly brand new. But let’s face it — ‘Satine’ is new this year as far as Hollywood is concerned, and that’s good enough for me.

Australian-born Barrett, who appeared in The Last Kiss with Zach Braff, and actor-husband Gabriel Macht (The Good Shepherd) welcomed their first child, a girl, on August 20. And in a decidedly Francophile display, they named her Satine Anais Geraldine. (I do not like those initials).

Anyway, ’Satine’ had me running for my baby name books, and for a moment I thought that Barrett and Macht had made it up. But no, they hadn’t.

The Oxford Dictionary of First Names lists ’Satin’ right there in black and white, and a couple of other books included ‘Satine’ as a French variant. Actually, you don’t really need a French variant for the word satin, since, according to the ODFN, ‘satin,’ denoting the sleek and luxuriant fabric, was a French term that migrated to English in the Middle Ages. It derives from the town in southern China from which it was first exported to the west.

Barrett, 35, and Macht, also 35, married in 2004. According to People, ”Mum and Satine are happy and healthy.”

UPDATE: August 25. People is reporting that the Brady-Moynahan baby is named Jonathan. The name was announced last night at a Patriot’s game in Charlotte, N.C.

CelebrityPregnancy.com is reporting that the baby is called William. The Boston Herald begs to differ, claiming their ‘maternity ward spies’ (is that a real job?) have uncovered the little guy’s name, and it’s Jonathan. But don’t be collecting on those bets just yet. Another celebrity baby blog is reporting (in their third update on the 48 hour-old story) that his name is John.

John From Cincinnati, maybe?

Young Master Moynahan, as we’re referring to him for now, is the offspring, in case you’ve been on Mars, of actress Bridget Moynahan, and her former boyfriend, New England Patriot’s quarterback, Tom Brady.

Brady, who is now dating supermodel Gisele Bundchen, split from Ms. Moynahan shortly after conception, as best I can tell.

It’s not exactly Dreiser’s American Tragedy, but you have to feel a little sorry for Moynahan, here. You don’t need a magnifying glass to read between the lines.

But taking a leaf from Spice Girl Mel Brown’s playbook, Moynahan had no hesitation in naming the father, back in February, when she announced her pregnancy.

It appears the news took Brady by surprise, although he didn’t deny it. A friend of the football star told US Magazine that Brady felt Moynahan was trying to make him ”look like a jerk,” by announcing it publicly. Maybe he’d prefer if she’d quietly left the country.

But back to celebrity baby names. For now, we don’t have one for this little guy. So I’m going to sit back and let the other gossip sites embarrass themselves. We believe in accuracy around here. And until Master Moynahan’s real name is officially released, either on Brady’s bio page on the Patriot’s site, or on this Bridget Moynahan fan site, or preferably both, I’m saying nothing more about it.

Except — what does Gisele Bundchen, the world’s highest paid model, and former girlfriend of Leonardo Dicaprio, think about all this? I bet she’s not lovin’ it…

Seattle-born actress Constance Zimmer, currently appearing as Dana Gordon in HBO’s hit series Entourage, and Claire Simms in Boston Legal, is pregnant. A December baby is in the works for Zimmer, and her director/boyfriend Russ Lamoureux.

She has also appeared in Joan of Arcadia and Good Morning, Miami.

Zimmer and Lamoureux have been dating for about a year.

I don’t imagine, dear reader, that you give a hoot, but I just got back from a vacation on Cape Cod. Hence the past week’s hiatus.

But enough about me. Upon my return, I am gob-smacked to learn that Christina Aguilera, who has still not officially confirmed her pregnancy, may have sparked a Celebrity Baby Names War.

According to celebrity tabloid blog The PopCrunch Show, Aguilera dissed fellow stars Gwyneth Paltrow and Jason Lee by saying that she wouldn’t pick any weird baby names like Apple or Pilot Inspektor. Whoaaa! That’s a slap in the face for Paltrow (mother of baby Apple) and Lee (father of Pilot Inspektor).

All eyes will be on Aguilera, and husband Jordan Bratman, as they go through the torture known as “picking a baby name.” She may think it’s easy to come up with a cool baby name, but it isn’t. Just ask Penn Jillette.

So while Aguilera and Bratman squirm on the baby name hot seat, what do Paltrow and Lee have to say in response? I haven’t heard anything from the respective camps yet, but if they would like to use this blog as a forum to strike back at Aguilera and defend their babies’ honor — you’re welcome to comment.

Or even write an op-ed piece. Insulting a fellow celebrity’s baby’s name is a low blow, and it should not go unanswered.

- Samantha Morton expecting baby in January, according to People. Morton is engaged to British director Harry Holm. This is the first child for the couple, but the second for Oscar-nominee Morton, who has a daughter, Esme, 7, from a previous relationship, with actor Charlie Creed-Miles.

- Chris O’Donnell and wife expecting fifth child. Just revealed, the O’Donnells are going for five. No word yet on the due date.

- Nicole Richie pregnancy confirmation. The singer/actress/socialite confirmed to ABC’s Diane Sawyer that she and boyfriend Joel Madden are expecting. The child is due sometime around the end of the year.

- Actress Courtney Thorne-Smith is pregnant with her first child. The baby is due around January.

- Without A Trace star Poppy Montgomery is expecting a baby around the end of the year. It’s the first for Montgomery, and her boyfriend, actor Adam Kaufman.

- Stella McCartney is pregnant again, with her third child. She had a baby girl, Bailey Linda, in December of last year, and now there’s another on the way for the daughter of the former Beatle. Due around December or January.

- CNN’s tough-talkin’ crime correspondent Nancy Grace is pregnant with twins. The babies will be her first, and they’re expected around January. Grace secretly wed banker David Linch in April.

- No due date revealed yet, but all eyes will be on a pregnant Christina Aguilera, expecting her first baby with husband Jordan Bratman in early 2008.

- Model Gabby Reece is pregnant with her second baby — expected around the end of the year. She’s married to surfer Laird Hamilton. You can catch her on the Today Show during her pregnancy, instructing viewers on how to keep fit during pregnancy, and pitching her new DVD on that subject.

- Baby for Campbell Brown. The Weekend Today host is expecting her first child — no word on the due date, but rumor has it around the end of the year.

- British golf champ Padraig Harrington will be a second-time father when his wife Caroline gives birth around December.

- Actress Jacinda Barrett is pregnant, and expecting her first baby this fall. The Australian-born actress starred recently in The Last Kiss.

- Actor Dennis Quaid is expecting twins. The star, and his wife Kimberly, will welcome their babies around Thanksgiving. The big story here is the form of birth, which is via gestational carrier.

- Olympic champion skaters David Pelletier and Jamie Sale are expecting their first child together. The baby is due in October.

- Actress and model Milla Jovovich is pregnant, and her first baby should be arriving sometime in the fall.

- Talk show host Elisabeth Hasselbeck will welcome her second baby in November.

- Actress Gretchen Mol is expecting a baby this fall.

- UPDATE: August 19. Jill Hennessey tells People that she’s expecting a boy. She’s also struggling with baby names. It’s a second baby on the way for Jill Hennessey, whose pregancy was announced in June. No due date has been released, but bump watchers are predicting a Fall baby.

- Singer Jack White, and his wife, model Karen Elson, are expecting their second baby. Due sometime in the fall.

- Baby for Borat star Sacha Baron Cohen. The comic actor, and his girlfriend Isla Fisher, are expecting their first child this coming winter.

- Australian-born actess Toni Collette, star of the hit movie Little Miss Sunshine, is pregnant. Collett’s baby should be here around December.

- Pop singer Usher, and fiance Tameka Foster, are expecting their first baby together this fall.

- A fall baby is expected for Grammy-nominated Latin singer Jennifer Pena, who wed singer Obie Bermudez in June.

- Mexican pop singer Thalia is expecting her first baby, a daughter, this fall. She is married to music exec Tommy Mottola.

- Dancing With The Stars host Samantha Harris has a baby due this fall.

- Olympic skier Jonny Moseley, and his wife Malia, are expecting a baby in September.

- Orlando Magic basketball star Grant Hill, and his wife Tamia, are expecting a baby girl in August. UPDATE: Baby born August 9.

- Salma Hayek’s baby is probably due around the end of July, but no official date has been released by the actress, and her fiance Francois-Henri Pinault.

- Jenna Elfman is very pregnant as well, and expecting her first baby anytime now. The Dharma and Greg star is said to be expecting a baby boy. UPDATE: The Elfman baby is born. Get the real story.

 - A very pregnant Naomi Watts is expecting her baby August 2, but it could be any time now. Watts, and boyfriend Liev Schreiber, have not chosen a name yet. UPDATE: Naomi Watts’ baby is born.

Emma Bunton, ‘Baby Spice’ of The Spice Girls, and her boyfriend Jade Jones, former singer with the British band Damage, are new parents. Bunton gave birth to a boy named Beau, this morning in London.

Now there’s a new celebrity baby name worth talking about! Sometimes short for Beauregard, the name Beau means ‘beautiful’ in French. Can’t say I’ve heard it given to a baby boy since Beau Bridges was around (and in his case, it was a nickname given to him by his mother).

Beau weighed 7 lb 15 oz, according to news about the birth in People.

Bunton, 31, and Jones, 27, have been together for about eight years. With the birth of Beau, Melanie Chisholm is the only Spice Girl yet to become a mother. The Spice Girls 12 city world tour kicks off December 7 in Los Angeles.

‘Tis the season for baby Ammons, as Ashly Delgrosso Costa, dancer for the first three seasons on the hit series Dancing With The Stars, welcomed a baby boy with husband Mike Costa on July 27 in Massachusetts.

The baby is named Ammon Michael.

Ammon is a well-known figure in the Book of Mormon. The name was also chosen recently by Costa’s fellow Mormon, Brandon Flowers, whose baby boy was born on July 14. Costa is a self-described ‘Utah County Mormon,’ from Highland, Utah.

In The Exhaustive Dictionary of Bible Names, by Dr. Judson Corwall and Dr. Stelman Smith, the name Ammon is said to mean ‘great people, or son of my people; people of strength’.

Violinist and vocalist Sharon Corr, of the Irish pop-rock band The Corrs, and husband Gavin Bonnar, welcomed their second child, a daughter, on July 18.

The baby is named Flori Jean Elizabeth. She joins big brother Cathal Robert Gerard, who was born in March of 2006. Corr married Belfast lawyer Bonnar in 2001.

Singer, guitarist, and co-founder of the rock band White Stripes, and his wife, model Karen Elson, welcomed their second child on August 7.

The BBC reports that the baby, a boy, is named Henry Lee. He joins big sister Scarlett Teresa, 15 months, at home.

White, 32, and Elson, 28, were married in 2005.

The White Stripes are enjoying continued success after ten years together. Their latest album, Icky Thump, released this summer, earned them their first U.S.A. Top 40 single, and reached the # 1 album spot in the U.K. Their sound has been described as a mix of delta blues, desert rock and thrash metal.

The Grammy Award-winning duo are nominated in the Best Group category in the upcoming MTV Video Music Awards.
