Celebrity Baby Name of the Day — "Seven"

erykah badu photo

From time to time, I like to pick out a “name of the day,” especially when the flood of new celebrity babies slows to a trickle for a day or so. At times like this, I can  either report on some really obscure “celebrity” birth, such as a new baby for the weather announcer from the early morning show on the second-rated television station in Brisbane, Australia, or I can focus on what makes this blog special – real celebrity baby names.

So let’s get to it. Why would anyone name their son Seven?

I honestly don’t know. But that’s what hip-hop/jazz artist Erykah Badu named her son, who was born in 1997. I can only assume that the number 7 has some special meaning for Badu. Or else for the father, Badu’s ex-boyfriend, André 3000 of OutKast.

Frequently readers of this blog come to my rescue when I don’t know the story behind a name. This may be one of those times. If you know why Erykah Badu named her son Seven, please let me know!

Digg!

I think she just picked it out of the air. I remember on her live album she said something like, “This song is dedicated to my baby Fly ’cause I’m her yeyo.”

So if she was going to name a girl Fly (aaugh) for no good reason, she’d name Seven Seven for no good reason.

Fly as in “dope”, “Cool”? I don’t know

or Fly as in free, butterfly free, beats me.

Fly as in the bug… ha

No matter which one, the name Fly would have been too crazy.

Seven is at least better’n that

If you think Seven is weird, get a load of this:

On her live album, she says something like: “This song is dedicated to by baby Fly ’cause I’m her yeyo…”

Fly as in “cool” or Fly as in flying or fly as in the bug — beats me, but Seven is a better name’n that.

Ms. Badu has stated in several interviews that she named her son Seven because and I quote “it is a divine number, and can not be divided”. She is big into mathematics and numbers. If you listen to the song “On & On” which was the first single that introduced her to the world, you’ll get her belief in numbers, etc. she says I was born with 3 dollars and 6 dimes = 360. Anyways food for thought, because knowledge is infinite and it has infinitely fell on me lol, another Badu gem!

I actually like the name, better than Apple.

Oh and by the way her daughter’s name is Puma, and Yeyo means mother in Swahili.

I don’t know why she names her son Seven but even before i knew this to be I had a little boy in 01/22/00 and names him Seven. His father picked the name because it is known to be God’s number. 7 days in a week. Rymes with Heaven and some other things. Maybe she was on the same track as him?

I named my daughter Seven Lee.
7 is the perfect number, and in the bible it also refers to a promise or oath (“Sheva” in Hebrew)

I do not understand why you need to insult somone if you don’t understand how they think.
I got son also named seven. The reason why me and my men gave him that name because it’s a holy number. it stands for the beginning end the end.(my father in law died and i gav birth to my son) there are seven miracles off the world. he made the earth in seven days. it’s not so hard to understand. here are so many names that are riddiculus. I think its beuatifull when you giv ya kid a name that really means something.

This Past June 29th I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy named SEVEN, his father and I choose this name when we were first dating unknowing that we’d even be together this long. It just felt right for our child to be given a gift…a special name that was well planned out. The seventh is when God rested from creating the earth, so we felt that our son whom was created in the likeness of God should have a name fitting his creation….not to mention he was born healthy at seven months on a sunday 7:00 am exactly.

Peace- my son name is Khaaliq seven asil! I believe that a name symbolizes a human being, therefore it should be a definition of who they are and will be. Peace and blessing to all!!

I don’t care what Erykah Badu says—she named the baby after the name used on “Seinfeld” in a memorable episode in 1996 about a totally unique baby name. It is also Mickey Mantle’s old Yankee number

Okay, I know not one person named Seven, nor am I religious, but the idea of giving your son or daughter the Seven, Eleven, or Seventeen is an amazing idea! The names are cute and original. I really think that the author of this should think about what they write before putting into words!
    Once again, adorable names, Vanessarette.
