Patrick Dempsey True Green With Irish Baby Names
If you like Irish baby names, Grey’s Anatomy star Patrick Dempsey, and wife and noted make-up artist Jillian Dempsey, are celebrity parents you’ll love.
The pair welcomed twin boys, Sullivan Patrick and Darby Galen (Galen is Dempsey’s middle name) on February 1 in Los Angeles, according to Us Magazine.
Sullivan, a surname-turned-first name, needs no introduction as an icon in the world of Irish names. Darby, according to the authoritative Dictionary of First Names by Patrick Hanks and Flavia Hodges, is also a transferred surname, originating as an English name in the Middle Ages, for someone from the city of Derby.
The dictionary also notes that in Ireland, Darby has often been used as an Anglicized form of the Gaelic Diarmait (Dermot). Go Green!
