Celebrity Baby Name of the Day

“Pilot Inspektor”

You wouldn’t think, just from looking at them, that actor Jason Lee and fiancee Beth Riesgraf would give their child one of the oddest, most talked-about celebrity baby names ever. But that’s just what they did. jason lee photorazzi

Their son, born September 28, 2003, is named Pilot Inspektor. According to Lee’s bio on Wikipedia, and other sources, they named their son Pilot because of the song He’s Simple, He’s Dumb, He’s the Pilot, by the American rock group Grandaddy. And apparently they just liked the name Inspektor. Ohhhkaaay.

Nothing wrong with liking a song. But how about sparing a thought for the little guy who has to grow up with this moniker? Then again, maybe it’s a Scientology thing, which both Lee and Riesgraf are into. But think about this: would Scientology have become as big as it has if the founder had been named Pilot Inspektor Hubbard?

Celebrity Baby Name of the Day

“Homer James Jigme”

Yes, it’s a mouthful. But that’s the name Richard Gere and his second wife, actress Carey Lowell, slapped on their son, born in 2000. Homer is after Gere’s father, while James is after Lowell’s. Jigme, a less familiar name to most of us, means “fearless” in Tibetan. Gere is a well-known Buddhist activist.

Sofia Coppola And Thomas Mars Name New Baby Romy

Sofia Coppola and her French boyfriend Thomas Mars, singer with the band Phoenix, have named their newly-arrived baby girl Romy, according to a story in EOnline. It’s a name that I’m seeing creep into fashion — Matt Lauer’s three year-old daughter is also named Romy.sofia coppola photorazzi

It’s the first child for Coppola, who divorced from director Spike Jonze in 2003, and for Thomas Mars.

The name Romy is usually considered a pet form of the name Rosemarie, according to the Facts on File Dictionary of First Names. Keep in mind though that Coppola’s brother is Roman Coppola, so maybe “Romy” is in honor of Roman Coppola.

A Baby Boy For Matt Lauer And Annette Roque

They almost divorced in 2005, but Today Show host Matt Lauer, and wife and former model Annette Roque, welcomed a baby boy on November 11 in New York.

Baby Lauer has a tongue-twister of a name: “Thijs,” pronounced “Tice,” in honor of Roque’s Dutch heritage. It’s more than that though – it’s also a nod to Dad. According to some baby name sources, the name is an abbreviation of the Dutch version of Matthew. So he’s a little Matt Lauer after all.

Celebrity Baby Name of the Day

 ”Barron”

You’ve got to love this story. “Barron,” as you may know, is the name that  Donald and Melania Knauss-Trump gave to their son, born on March 20, 2006. His full name is Barron William Trump. Given Trump’s stature in our celebrity-besotten society, naming their son “Barron” is tantamount to calling him King Trump. So why is this surprising, if you know the Donald?

donald trump photorazziBack in January, 2006, exactly 3 months before the arrival of Mini Trump, the Donald wrote a post on his blog criticizing the penchant among celebrities for giving their kids “odd names.” Here’s what Donald wrote:

“I’m not sure why celebrities feel the need to do this to their kids. It’s hard enough for the children of famous people to have relatively normal lives. It doesn’t help when, on top of everything else, they have to go through life with a really weird name.”

Three months later, to the sound of palace trumpets and the cheering of the populace, enter Barron William Trump, America’s closest thing to baby royalty.

Despite their dislike of odd celebrity baby names, I guess Donald and Melania just couldn’t resist.

Celebrity Baby Name of the Day

“Moxie Crimefighter”

This name, given to their daughter by comedian Penn Jillette and his wife Emily, has to rank among the top three weirdest celebrity baby names of all time. Moxie Crimefighter was born June 3, 2005.

In a January, 2006 radio show, Jillette explained that he and his wife figured that people don’t really know other people’s middle names, so they “might as well have some fun with it.”

The irony, of course, is that their daughter now has the most famous, or infamous, middle name on the planet. And Jillette’s explanation failed to explain his daughter’s first name, Moxie, which also happens to be the name of the first mass-produced soda in the United States. As slang, “moxie” has come to mean “spirited,” or “gutsy,” which the little girl will need to be when she hits the playground in kindergarten.

Heidi Klum And Seal Come Up With Another Great Celebrity Baby Name

heidi klum photorazzi

Johan Riley Fyodor Taiwo Samuel — that’s the name that supermodel Heidi Klum and British musician Seal have bestowed on their second son, born on November 22, 2006. The name is as long as the one they gave to his big brother last year: Henry Gunther Ademola Dashtu Samuel.

It’s obvious where Samuel comes from — that’s the last of Seal’s five given names. Apparently Seal was so happy with his own five names, he decided to continue the tradition and do the same for his sons. The remaining four names for the newborn will have to await further explanation from the parents. If the naming of big brother Henry is anything to go by, three of the four will be in honor of family members, and one will be a made-up name. I’m guessing the made-up name will turn out to be “Taiwo.”

Celebrity Baby Name of the Day

“Jayden”

The name Jayden is a variant of the name “Jadon,” which means “thankful” in Hebrew. It’s our Thanksgiving Day celebrity baby name. No need to ask which baby! Jayden James, of course, is the name of Britney Spears’s and Kevin Federline’s second son, born some two months ago. For the first month of his life, the world thought that Jayden was named “Sutton Pierce.”

Celebrity Baby Name of the Day

“Rumer.”

Bruce Willis photorazziIn 1988, Demi Moore and Bruce Willis named their daughter “Rumer”. It doesn’t seem to have done her any harm, however. She has a budding career as an actress, and is due to attend the University of Southern California in 2006.
