Our “What Will Britney Name Her Baby?” contest began 9 days ago, and it has been a real roller coaster ride. Bumpy, twisty, and gut-wrenching. (It’s still open to contestants, so go enter!) For a while there, it seemed certain that the baby would be a girl, a rumor buttressed in no small part by my own unintended disinformation in broadcasting the abundance of pink items in Brit and Kev’s baby registry. Then there was the near-hysteria as word spread that the supposed girl would be named Jailynn. My inbox was flooded with ‘Jailynn’ entries. (Well, dampened a bit, anyway).

But nothing prepared us for what we learned just hours ago — it’s a boy! Wow. Talk about a turnaround. I guess Brit can strike that pink cashmere cardigan and bootie set off the registry. Talking of the registry: Brit’s calling circle continues to let her down. Since September 4, only one new item has been purchased from the the registry, and it was under $100 just like the others! Come on Brit’s family and friends. Time to break out the plastic and show you care.

So it’s a boy. 75 percent of our contestants just bombed. But in the entries that are left — there are some excellent name suggestions! (I hope Britney and Kevin are reading). How about ‘Keven?’ (with an ‘e,’ — not sure what that’s about). We’ve got Andrew, Ethan, Owen, Grayson, Braden Jamie, Seth James, Levi, and more. But my personal favorite? Without question, it’s ‘Hamlet Joseph.’ Perfect. Hamlet Joseph Federline. Or Hamlet Joseph Spears. Whichever. And I love the sound of ‘Hamlet and Sean.’ Really goes together.
